Daniel's Student

In Rememberance

November 5, 2011

As we remember on November 11th I decided I would share one of our mixed media wall hangings.  “Poppies” was constructed by hand painting the poppies and appliquing them on the hand dyed background. Finished off with hand quilting the background.    The blossoms were just too flat so my dear HH partner to the rescue.  He performed his technique of pointillism putting a different rememberance story on each of the flowers.

And so we say, so long Smilin’ Jack and may we learn day by day to live by your words.  Thank you for being an inspiration.

“My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic.

And we’ll change the world”.

Victor’s visit to Cal Pipil 2011

June 5, 2011

This year, the proceeds from our art work went to the music program which Victor started in 2008.  The following are some pictures when he visited “Youth House” and presented the four new Guitars.  The kids were anxious to perform for him.

One thing Harmony Hopes wanted to do while Victor was home visiting was to contribute towards the music program at Cal Pipil.  Last evening on Facebook this is what they posted..

World Refugee Week 2010

June 18, 2010

Arriving at National Archives for the World Refugee Week, Victor was pleasantly surprised to see that Sherry Tompalski a very talented artist had done a collage of Victor.  Day two of this 5 day event was hosted by Jayne Stoyles, Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for International Justice (CCIJ) and emceed by Jessica Solomon who worked as a war crimes lawyer for the UN when she decided to come home to Canada and pursue a career in comedy. Frankly, she thought it was time to get serious. (Yes, Victor and I weren’t sure if we should laugh or gasp; and laugh we did when later we enjoyed a chat with her.)  At this event Victor shared a piece of poetry he wrote in English, a couple of songs in English and a song which he wrote in Spanish.  We will be adding a link to YouTube of his performance.
